Sandusky granted hearing in appeal of sex abuse conviction
HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) A Pennsylvania judge is giving former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky three days of hearings in August to develop more information about the claims and arguments he's made in seeking to have his child molestation conviction overturned.
Judge John Cleland on Thursday said the proceedings will address whether prosecutors improperly leaked information about the investigation and whether defense lawyers should have called Sandusky to testify.
The hearing also will delve into whether a prosecutor lied during closing arguments at Sandusky's 2012 trial, saying he did not know the identity of a key figure referred to as Victim 2.
Also at issue is whether Sandusky's lawyers should have stopped him from doing an NBC television interview after his arrest.
Sandusky is serving a 30- to 60-year sentence.
