Notre Dame could turn to freshman at nose tackle

Notre Dame football suffered a big loss late last week when Jarron Jones hurt his knee, but hopes are high for youngsters in line to take his place.

Irish Illustrated reports Jerry Tillery, a four-star freshman from Louisiana, has impressed head coach Brian Kelly since enrolling early in January.

“It was invaluable to have him here in the spring given that he’s going to be in a pretty prominent role for us on the defensive side of the ball,” Kelly said. “He knows the defense pretty well. The more he’s here the more he’s comfortable with being put in the role of going out and playing as a freshman.”

Daniel Cage, a sophomore from Cincinnati, is slated to back up Tillery.
