Charleston Southern QB out for season
(STATS) - Charleston Southern's 57-7 victory over Kentucky State on Saturday proved costly as starting quarterback Kyle Copeland suffered a season-ending knee injury.
The redshirt junior said he suffered ACL and MCL tears in his right knee. He was tackled just outside the Kentucky State goal line and fumbled the ball into the end zone for a touchback early in the second quarter.
Copeland left the game on a stretcher.
Later in the day, he wrote on Twitter: "Thanks for all the prayers. God has a plan and I will embrace my new role the rest of the season. I love this team. We will be successful!"
Backup quarterback Shane Bucenell and senior running back Darius Hammond also suffered injuries in the game.
The seventh-ranked Buccaneers (1-1), the defending Big South champions and FCS quarterfinalists last year, beat Division II Kentucky State 57-7.
