Yale sweeps Fairfield, Conn., knocks off Sacred Heart, 99-77

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) Justin Sears and Makai Mason combined to score 48 points as Yale built an 18-point first-half lead and cruised past Sacred Heart in the Bulldogs' home opener, 99-77 Monday night.

The Bulldogs (2-0) now have swept both Division I programs from Fairfield, Connecticut. Yale opened the season Friday with a 70-57 win over Fairfield in the Connecticut 6 Challenge and completed the sweep with its fifth straight victory in a home opener - its ninth in the last 11 seasons.

Sears, last year's Ivy League Player of the Year, finished with 27 points to lead the Bulldogs. Mason scored Yale's first seven points and finished with 21. Nick Victor pulled down 11 rebounds and Jack Montague and Brandon Sherrod finished with 15 and 12 points, respectively.

Cane Broome scored 32 points to lead Sacred Heart (1-1). Jordan Allen contributed 15 points as the Pioneers shot 53.1 percent (26 for 49).
