The attorney for a University of California, Berkeley assistant basketball coach fired after a woman accused him of sexual harassment says there was no harassment but ''a flirtation that never went anywhere.''
Yann Hufnagel's attorney, Mary McNamara, says her client is being made an example because of the recent string of UC Berkeley's faculty and employees who faced sexual harassment allegations.
McNamara says Hufnagel expressed interest in someone who was not a Berkeley student or employee and that he never touched her.
She says she is confident Hufnagel will be vindicated.
Hufnagel said earlier Wednesday he hired a lawyer to fight the university's decision to terminate his employment.

Yann Hufnagel says in a Tweet that an investigative report released by the university on Tuesday is wrong. He says the last two days have been ''gut-wrenching'' and that being separated from the team has been ''unbearable.''
University officials are reviewing whether coach Cuonzo Martin correctly handled the allegations against Hufnagel.
Under campus policy, supervisors are required to promptly forward any sexual misconduct complaints they receive to the office that investigates them.
A university report shows the allegations against Hufnagel were referred to investigators six weeks after a female journalist said she first told Martin she'd been sexually harassed.

Officials at the University of California, Berkeley, are reviewing whether the men's head basketball coach correctly handled sexual harassment allegations against one of his assistants.
Athletic Director Mike Williams said in a statement that the review aims ''to dispel any doubts'' about coach Cuonzo Martin's role in the case that led to the firing of assistant coach Yann Hufnagel.
Under campus policy, supervisors are required to promptly forward any sexual misconduct complaints they receive to the office that investigates such allegations.
