Melvin Johnson III scored 21 points and UTSA continued its torrid 3-point shooting Wednesday night in an 80-62 victory over Northwestern State.

The Roadrunners, who came into the game as the Southland Conference's leader in 3-point field-goal percentage (.395) and 3-pointers per game (8.2), hit 11 of 22 shots from beyond the arc against Northwestern State. UTSA also converted 17 of 20 free-throw attempts.

Johnson was good on 4 of 5 3-pointers, including two during a 12-0 run to close the first half that put UTSA ahead 45-29.

Kannon Burrage added 14 points, Jeromie Hill 12, Igor Nujic 11 and Michael Hale III 10 for the Roadrunners (11-7, 4-1 Southland). UTSA had not begun the conference season with a 4-1 record since 2005.

Shamir Davis led Northwestern State (9-9, 2-2) with 17 points. William Mosley added 15 points, 12 rebounds and six blocked shots.
