Melvin Johnson III scored 24 points and UTSA rallied to defeat Lamar 70-64 Saturday night.

Devin Gibson added 16 points and Sei Paye had 11 for the Roadrunners (12-9, 5-3 Southland), who have won four of five.

Donley Minor had 17 points for the Cardinals (9-13, 3-5), who have lost four straight. Anthony Miles scored 13.

UTSA overcame a poor shooting performance (33.9 percent) by hitting 25-of-34 free throws. Lamar, meanwhile, shot 40 percent but was just 7 of 13 from the foul line.

The Roadrunners hit eight of their free throws in the closing minutes as they rallied from a 58-55 deficit with 5:08 to play. A three-point play by Gibson tied it with 4:37 remaining and started an 8-0 run, capped by Paye's 3-pointer.

Lamar pulled within 63-61 with 2:03 left before UTSA secured its win with a 6-0 run.
