Savannah State beats Florida National 87-69

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) Brian Pearson had 20 rebounds and 11 points, and Savannah State defeated Florida National 87-69 on Friday night.

Chris Martin added 16 points, Kamil Williams 13, and Troyce Manassa and Khalen Pinkett 11 apiece in the Tigers' opener. Casey Wells made it six Tigers in double figures with 10.

Florida National took a 40-38 lead with 15:13 remaining. The Tigers responded with nine straight points. The Conquistadors got within one with 9:32 to go, but an 18-1 run left the Tigers ahead 71-53.

The Tigers took advantage at the free-throw line, making 22 to the Conquistadors' eight. The Conquistadors, members of the United State Christian Athletic Association, hit 11 3-pointers and held their own the boards but had 25 turnovers, 12 coming on steals.

Regan O'Rourke led Florida National with 14 points. Quantavis Hall added 13, John Hogan 12 and Yves Goedschalk 11.
