Antwan Burrus had a double-double to pace Liberty to a 64-58 victory over MVSU on Friday in the South Padre Island Invitational.
Burrus scored 10 points and grabbed a game-best 11 rebounds for the Flames (3-4), who broke a two-game losing streak. David Minaya led Liberty with 12 points, and Evan Gordon and John Caleb Sanders contributed 10 apiece.
Terrence Joyner paced the Delta Devils (0-5) with 14 points. Orlando Smith scored 12.
Liberty's advantage came at the foul line. The Flames sank 27 of 36 free throws to just 5 of 12 for MVSU. Liberty also had a 44-32 rebounding advantage.
Tied 6-6 with 16:01 left in the first half, Liberty held MSVU scoreless for 9:20 and forged a 17-6 edge. The Flames led 27-17 at halftime, and the lead peaked at 17 midway through the second half.
Liberty leads the series 2-0.
