DePaul forward Tony Freeland is transferring to tend to his ailing grandmother back home in Los Angeles.

Freeland, a junior, was already out for the season because of a shoulder injury. He played in 57 games and made 15 starts over two years, averaging 6.8 points and 3.8 rebounds.

He says he's ''going home to help my ill grandmother'' and that he wants to finish school. He says the ''only way to pay for it is to play basketball at another institution.''

Coach Oliver Purnell says the Blue Demons ''support his decision to be closer to home and near his family.''
