Galal Cancer scored 17 points as Cornell defeated Princeton 67-59 Friday night in the teams' Ivy League opener.

The freshman guard scored 13 points in the second half, including two layups during an 8-0 run that gave the Big Red (6-9) a 48-40 lead with 10:36 remaining. He also assisted on Shonn Miller's layup in that run.

Cornell's lead ranged between four and eight points the rest of the way. The Tigers (9-8) trailed 63-59 with 1:24 left after a layup by Douglas Davis, but they didn't score again.

Cornell shot 52 percent (13 of 25) in the second half to Princeton's 34.4 percent (11 of 32).

Miller added 12 points and Dwight Tarwater 10 for Cornell, with four of Tarwater's five baskets giving the Big Red the lead.

Davis scored 16 points for Princeton, making 7 of 22 shots. Ian Hummer had 14 points and nine rebounds.
