Central Arkansas upsets Sam Houston State 80-71

CONWAY, Ark. (AP) LaQuentin Miles scored 23 points as Central Arkansas upset Sam Houston State 80-71 on Thursday.

Sam Houston State (19-8, 11-4 Southland) jumped out quickly to a 12-4 lead - including 3-pointers by Kaheem Ransom and Jabari Peters. But Central Arkansas (7-19, 4-11) stormed back, using an 18-6 run to take the lead en route to a 38-34 advantage at the break.

An 8-2 run to open the second half pushed the Central Arkansas lead to 10 at 46-36.

Sam Houston cut the lead to four at 70-66 with 2:56 left on a Peters layup. But a layup and free throw by Daouda Berete made it a seven-point game and the Bearkats made just one of their last six shots while Central Arkansas made 5 of 6 free throws.

DuShone McClure added 14 for CAU; Brown ended with 11 points.

Peters led Sam Houston with 18 and Ransom finished with 16.
