Garrison Carr scored 11 of his game-high 23 points in overtime to lead American to a 75-68 victory over Lafayette on Saturday. Derrick Mercer had 12 points for American (21-7, 13-1 Patriot League) while Brian Gilmore and Nick Hendra each contributed 11 points. Jeff Kari scored 19 points for Lafayette (8-21, 4-10) while Michael Gruner scored 17 points and had 10 rebounds and Andrew Brown added 14 points. American led 29-24 at the half and held a 59-51 lead late in the second half, but the Leopards went on a 9-1 run to tie the score at 60 with 28 seconds left and force overtime. Carr opened the extra period with one 3-pointer and hit two more to give American a 69-64 lead, and he then hit two free throws in the final seconds to seal the win.
