Keeps clean sheet Monday Simon had one save and secured a clean sheet in Monday's 0-0 draw versus Cape Verde.
Impact Simon got the starting nod for Spain's World Cup opener, beating out both David Raya and Joan Garcia who are coming off excellent club seasons. Simon did not have to do much to earn a clean sheet, only making one easy save on a header late in the match. It's hard to judge Simon and Spain's defensive performance given they had the ball in the opposing half for nearly the entire match, though that's the way the European Champions want to play. Next up is a tilt with Saudi Arabia Sunday in Atlanta, another favorable matchup where Spain is expected to dominate possession once again.

Impact Simon ended the season with Athletic Club having made 38 appearances and recording six clean sheets, playing a key role in manager De la Fuente's system with his ability to play out from the back and his reliability at international level over the past several years. The keeper has been Spain's undisputed number one through the Euro 2024 triumph and coach De la Fuente has remained loyal to him despite David Raya's exceptional season at Arsenal and Joan Garcia's breakthrough campaign at Barcelona, valuing his experience and familiarity with the national team's style. Simon heads into the World Cup knowing the goalkeeper debate will be one of the most discussed topics surrounding the squad, and he will need to perform at his very best to silence the clamor for one of his rivals to take his place.

Impact Simon struggled in this match and eventually conceded the game's only goal, putting a major dent in Athletic's hopes for a Europe spot next season. MAY 10 • ROTOWIRE
Beaten twice in win Simon recorded two saves and allowed two goals in Saturday's 4-2 victory over Deportivo Alaves.
Impact It's hard to blame Simon for the two goals he conceded here -- one was an unstoppable shot from the edge of the box, and the other was a shot from very close range in which he was unable to react. Simon should remain Athletic's No. 1 option between the posts even if he struggles at times, but he's a matchup-based play right now due to Athletic's defensive woes.

Impact Simon failed to impress this time around, a stark contrast with his previous showing in which he denied a penalty kick and kept a clean sheet. Impact Simon didn't have a lot of work in this win, and he only had to deal with two shots from Ante Budimir throughout the match. This was Simon's first clean sheet in LaLiga since December, when he had a shutout versus Atletico Madrid. Despite being ticketed to be part of Spain's squad in the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, Simon hasn't been a reliable fantasy presence in this Liga season, mainly due to Athletic's defensive woes.

Impact Simon had a major letdown, allowing three goals to one of the least offensively dynamic teams in La Liga. He'll be in for another challenge up next against Betis, a team which has 42 goals scored in 27 La Liga games ahead of Sunday's clash.

Despite the scoreline, he made three saves, including two from outside the box and an impressive one-on-one stop late in the match, though the rebound was converted. He finished the tournament with two clean sheets and 14 goals conceded across eight appearances, but a return to the competition next season looks very unlikely given his side's continued struggles. The team currently sits 13th in the league, has already conceded 30 goals compared to 29 last season, and has failed to keep a clean sheet in its last seven matches across all competitions. Simon will look to bounce back in his next outing against Real Sociedad on Sunday.
