Schalke players Hoewedes, Farfan injured

Schalke captain Benedikt Hoewedes and winger Jefferson Farfan

will be out for several weeks after both tore knee ligaments while

on international duty.

Schalke says Farfan injured his left knee in Peru’s 2-0 loss to

Ecuador in a World Cup qualifier, while Germany defender Hoewedes

sustained the injury to his right knee in the 3-0 win over the

Netherlands.

Farfan, who will be unable to play for at least six weeks, is

expected back in Gelsenkirchen in the coming days.

Hoewedes’ recovery period was yet to be determined.
