Bayern’s Badstuber re-injures knee

Bayern Munich and Germany defender Holger Badstuber has suffered a recurrence of the cruciate ligament tear in his right knee.

The Bundesliga club says Badstuber needs another operation and will be out of action for several more months.

Badstuber missed more than half the Bundesliga season from the initial injury, sustained when he slipped awkwardly during Bayern’s 1-1 draw with Borussia Dortmund last December. He had returned from a torn thigh muscle 11 days before that.

Bayern sports director Matthias Sammer says, ”Of course we’ll give him all the time in the world to get better. We’re optimistic. I’m certain he’ll come back stronger than ever before.”
