Danny Shelton will miss Browns OTAs to finish up degree

Published May. 19, 2015 2:18 p.m. ET

When the Browns assemble for OTAs next week, 12th overall pick Danny Shelton will be on campus at the University of Washington working to finish up his degree.

Shelton will miss all 10 of the team's OTA practices, but he is determined to make up for lost time so he doesn't fall too far behind the rest of his fellow rookies.

"I'm going to be that guy who outworks people," Shelton told the Northeast Ohio Media Group. "I'm going to be that guy who breaks stereotypes, breaks negativity, and brings the positive energy. I'm just excited to get in and work with these guys and be a part of the Dawg Pound."

Shelton will graduate on June 14 and report back to Berea two days later for the Browns' mandatory minicamp. He'll be studying his playbook and working out while hitting the books at the same time.

"It's going to have to be a lot of accountability,'' he said. "I'm going to have to make sure I'm communicating with the coaches, make sure I'm getting in the playbook and make sure that I'm keeping my cardio up at the same time."
