The Fugue outruns Treve for Prince of Wales win at Royal Ascot
The Fugue spoiled the highly anticipated English debut of Treve and set a track record in winning the Prince of Wales Stakes at Royal Ascot on Wednesday.
Magician was 1-3/4 lengths back in second, and Treve a clear third.
Treve, the overwhelming 8-13 favorite in her first race outside of France, surged from sixth down the home straight but could not catch The Fugue, who went off at odds of 11-2.
The English filly, owned and bred by composer Andrew Lloyd Webber and his wife Madeleine, sat in the group before making an unobstructed move to the front.
”When she gets an uncongregated run like she did today, she’s lethal," jockey Williams Buick said.
Treve’s finish left trainer Criquette Head-Maarek perplexed.
"Her action was not right today, and I don’t know why," Head-Maarek said. "She didn’t please me. Something must have been wrong with her.”
