Donald, Garcia, De Jonge to play Nedbank

Luke Donald, Sergio Garcia and Brendon de Jonge are the latest players to confirm they will be at the expanded Nedbank Golf Challenge in Sun City in December, organizers said Friday.

No. 4-ranked Henrik Stenson and No. 5 Justin Rose, the U.S. Open champion, were confirmed for the Dec. 5-8 event last week.

D.A. Points, a two-time winner on the PGA Tour, also will play for the $1.5 million prize at Sun City and join U.S. players Gary Woodland and Kevin Streelman.

Donald returns to Sun City for the first time since 2011, when he played at the Nedbank as the No. 1-ranked player the week before making history as the first man to top the U.S. and European money lists. Donald hasn’t been as dominant since, slipping to No. 14, and is without a title this year.

Garcia has won the Nedbank twice and is in the running to be the first non-African to claim a hat trick of titles at Sun City. De Jonge and Points will be making their debuts.

This year’s Nedbank has full European Tour status and counts toward world rankings, Ryder Cup points and the tour’s Race to Dubai money list. The invitational event also has been expanded from 12 to 30 players and the prize money increased to $6.5 million, although the winner’s share is unchanged at $1.5 million.
