Impact McCarthy was sidelined this spring while rehabbing a shoulder injury, which allowed Cade McNamara to take the bulk of the first-team reps. Michigan has now given McCarthy the green light to resume throwing as of Monday. Missing time in spring could make it tougher for McCarthy to usurp McNamara as the starter, though he will have a chance to make up ground over the course of the summer.

The 6-foot-3 freshman appeared in 11 games, throwing for 516 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions on 59 attempts. McCarthy will look to be ready for training camp in the summer.
