Cincinnati Reds hire Joe Torres as pitching coach
CINCINNATI (AP) — Joe Torres has been hired as the Cincinnati Reds' pitching coach after spending the past five seasons with the Cleveland Guardians as their assistant pitching coach.
Reds manager Terry Francona had Torres on his Guardians coaching staff in 2022 and ‘23. Before joining the major league staff, Torres spent five seasons coaching in Cleveland’s minor league system.
The 44-year-old Torres was the 10th overall pick in the 2000 amateur draft by the Los Angeles Angels. He also spent time with the White Sox, Dodgers, Rangers and Rockies before retiring in 2013.
Torres inherits a staff that includes Chase Burns, who was fourth in the National League with 15 wins and ninth in strikeouts (185) last season. The Reds, though, had the third-highest ERA in the majors (4.83), with their starting staff at 4.97.
Cincinnati finished last in the NL Central with a 75-87 record after making the postseason in 2025.
