Owen McCown throws 3 TD passes, UTSA opens season with 45-16 win over Vaqueros

SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Owen McCown threw for three touchdowns and UTSA beat UT Rio Grande Valley 45-16 on Saturday in the Roadrunners' season opener.

McCowan threw for the game's first two scores, a 38-yard pass to AJ Wilson Jr. then a 7-yarder to Brandon Young Jr., who snagged the throw with one hand in the back of the end zone. Ahamad Chapman added a 49-yard pick-6 and it was 21-0.

The Roadrunners had three offensive touchdowns over 50 yards: A 75-yard sprint by Will Henderson III, a 62-yard screen pass to DJ Allen Jr. and an A'Marion Peterson rush for 53 yards.

McCown finished 22 of 27 for 275 yards before departing with 10 minutes left in the game. Henderson rushed for 99 yards and Peterson 96. Allen had 116 yards receiving. UTSA had 525 yards offense.

Garret Rangel passed for 152 yards for UTRGV. The Vaqueros got their only touchdown with four seconds left on Atzel Chavez Jr.'s 1-yard run and finished with 422 yards offense.

The Vaqueros (2-0) played an FBS opponent for the first time.
