Draft prospect Embiid announces Cleveland arrival

Kansas center and potential No. 1 overall draft pick Joel Embiid was in Cleveland for a scheduled visit with the Cavaliers on Wednesday.

Embiid confirmed the visit on his Twitter and Instagram accounts, by writing "Having fun in Cleveland." He also posted a picture of a Cavs T-shirt.

The Cavs, of course, own the No. 1 pick and are said to be considering using it to select Embiid.

They first want to meet with Embiid and have their doctors examine his health. A stress fracture in Embiid's back caused him to miss all of the Big 12 tournament and NCAA tournament this past season as a freshman with the Jayhawks.

Sources have told FOX Sports Ohio the Cavs will not rely on outside medical evaluations, and they would not draft him without conducting their own. By all accounts, Embiid and his camp have agreed to a physical from the Cavs' medical staff.

Embiid averaged 11.2 points, 8.1 rebounds and 2.6 blocked shots per game at Kansas. He did not attend the NBA combine in Chicago in May, but did hold a workout for teams in California a few weeks ago. Those in attendance said he looked healthy.

The Cavs are also expected to visit with Kansas swingman Andrew Wiggins and Duke forward Jabari Parker, other candidates for the top overall pick. Those visits have not yet been determined.

Also, the Cavs are expected to periodically bring in individuals who could potentially be selected with the team's second-round pick (No. 33 overall) or be signed as an undrafted free agent. One such prospect is Providence guard Bryce Cotton, who is scheduled to work out for the Cavs on Thursday, according to Cotton's agent.
