StaTuesday: Peralta's HR first for Brewers pitcher since 2013

Published Jun. 14, 2016 1:30 p.m. ET

Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Wily Peralta smacked his first major-league home run with authority on Saturday, belting a Logan Verrett pitch 429 feet and following it up with a casual bat flip to give his team a 5-2 lead.

Brewers slugger Ryan Braun -- who smacked two home runs of his own on Saturday -- wasn't particularly surprised.

"He has as much power as probably anybody on our team, so you knew it was only a matter of time," Braun said.

Peralta was demoted to Triple-A the next day, but his no-doubter secures the Brewers' starter a unique spot in franchise history.

Peralta is just the 17th Brewers pitcher to hit a home run since 1970, and the first since 2013, when Yovani Gallardo hit a solo shot off of then-Pittsburgh Pirates starter Wandy Rodriguez.

-- Brooks Kieschnick only appeared in 74 games for Milwaukee as a pitcher, while four of his Brewers home runs were hit while he was appearing as a pinch hitter, and two were hit while he was being used a designated hitter.

-- Yes, they really did use Kieschnick (again, a pitcher) as a DH.

Overall, Milwaukee Brewers pitchers have now hit 33 home runs since 1970, a total that dates back to April 12, 1970, when George Lauzerique homered in a 16-2 win over the Chicago White Sox.
