Sam Darnold, Josh Rosen both go top 10 in NFL Draft
It was a record setting night for quarterbacks at Thursday NFL Draft and a couple of Los Angeles products can be thanked for that.
Former USC and San Clemente High School star Sam Darnold was selected with the No. 3 overall pick by the New York Jets, becoming the highest selected USC player since running back Reggie Bush was chosen 2nd overall in 2006. Darnold is expected to contend for the Jets starter role for their season opener Sept. 10 against the Detroit Lions.

After a couple of trades jostled around the order of selections, UCLA and St. John Bosco product Josh Rosen was taken by the Arizona Cardinals with the 10th overall pick. Rosen is expected to be the successor to current Cardinal and former USC quarterback Carson Palmer.

In total, four quarterbacks were selected in the top for the first time in NFL history, with Oklahoma's Baker Mayfield going first overall to the Cleveland Browns and the Buffalo Bills trading up to take Wyoming's Josh Allen at seven. Louisville QB Lamar Jackson rounded out the selection of passers, coming off the board as the final pick of the first round at 32nd overall to the Baltimore Ravens.
