Pitchers, infielders head D-backs' top prospect list

Published Nov. 5, 2015 5:52 p.m. ET

Jeff Wiser over at Inside the 'Zona has put together an exhaustive listing of the Diamondbacks top 30 minor-league prospects.

You'll see a number of these prospect list published during the off-season, but since Jeff's focus is zeroed in year-round entirely on the D-backs, it's worthy of our attention.

We'll tease you here with the top 10, but you'll need to click on the links below for analysis, explanation and all the good stuff.

1.Shortstop Dansby Swanson

2. Pitcher Aaron Blair

3. Pitcher Braden Shipley

4. Lefty pitcher Alex Young

5. Infielder Brandon Drury

6. Second baseman Isan Diaz

7. Outfielder Marcus Wilson

8. Outfielder Socrates Brito

9. Second baseman Jamie Westbrook

10. Slugger Peter O'Brien

Wiser's write-ups leave the impression there are no can't-miss superstars in the pipeline, but all in all, the future seems promising -- especially from a pitching and middle-infield perspective. There is one rather glaring exception -- a dearth of top-flight catching prospects in the system -- which could explain why the parent club burned a roster spot for most of the 2015 season on Rule 5 pickup Oscar Hernandez. Stryker Trahan -- who hit .193 while striking out 37 percent of the time in Class A -- hasn't inspired much confidence.
