Report: Flyers' Hartnell cleared to play
Philadelphia Flyers forward Scott Hartnell was cleared to play by a cardiologist Tuesday after experiencing an elevated heart rate during a preseason game last week, sources told NHL.com.
Hartnell, 29, left Friday's exhibition game after medical staff discovered the abnormal heart rate.
The Flyers forward reportedly told the team's training staff he was experiencing twitching in his right arm between the second and third periods, prompting further examination.
Hartnell said Monday he was feeling better, but still planned to see the cardiologist. He sat out Monday night's game against the New York Rangers as a precaution.
Hartnell is expected to participate in the Flyers' next preseason game against the New Jersey Devils on Thursday.
The former first-round draft pick tallied 24 goals and 25 assists last season on the Flyers' top performing line with Danny Briere and Ville Leino.
