This is the start of a four-game road trip for the Bruins, as they will look to get it off on the right foot against the Rangers. They are looking to snap a two-game losing streak, as they homestand didn’t end well; the Bruins lost to the Montreal Canadiens 4-2 and got shutout 5-0 by the Minnesota Wild.
The Rangers are coming into the game on a two-game winning streak. They defeated the Washington Capitals on the road 4-2 and then defeated the Arizona Coyotes 3-2 in their most recent game.
The Bruins come into this game extremely shorthanded in net. The Bruins goaltending has been victimized by injuries, as they are without starter and yearly Vezina Trophy contender Tuukka Rask, who is listed as day-to-day with an undisclosed injury. Backup Anton Khudobin is out at least three weeks with an upper-body injury.
In their place, youngsters Malcolm Subban and Zane McIntyre had a rough game against the Wild. The five goals were yielded on only 33 shots. There is a chance that Rask could be back tonight given the day-to-day tag, but if he is not, either Subban or McIntyre will be in net.
That is where the Rangers will hold their biggest advantage, as they have Henrik Lundqvist in goal. If he is unable to play for whatever reason, they can turn to Antti Raanta. That is a luxury the Bruins do not have right now and could be the difference in the game tonight.
