Teddy Bridgewater injured: Vikings season already ruined?

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Teddy Bridgewater was injured in Vikings practice Tuesday and fans are wondering if the season is already ruined.

Mike Zimmer sat Teddy Bridgewater against the Seattle Seahawks because the QB had a sore shoulder. He played Bridgewater against the Chargers and Teddy performed brilliantly for a half of football.

And that excellent half of football might be the last Bridgewater plays for a very long time.

The worst nightmare of Vikings fans seems to be playing out in awful, gut-twisting slow-motion.

Tuesday afternoon, Bridgewater went down in a heap on the practice field and an ambulance had to be brought out.

Bridgewater’s teammates knelt around him and some bowed their heads in prayer.

The Vikings immediately shut down practice and shooed the media away. A press conference is scheduled for 4 PM C
Eastern Time and obviously Vikings fans are holding their breath.

Expect Mike Zimmer to be in a particularly gloomy mood as he takes the podium to update the public on his quarterback’s condition.

I don’t want to get too far ahead of myself but the reports from the field painted a dire picture. It certainly looks like Teddy Bridgewater suffered some kind of catastrophic knee injury.

And that’s how fast a season filled with promise can turn into a nightmare.

Fans woke up this morning all jacked up for their contending Vikings team to take the field in their magnificent new stadium. And now this happens.

If Bridgewater is badly hurt, it will be Shaun Hill’s team. Will the Vikings make a move for another quarterback? It’s very likely.

Not very much out there on the free agent wire, but Rick Spielman will have to make something happen. Assuming Bridgewater is going to be out for a significant chunk of time.

All we can do is sit and hope that Bridgewater isn’t badly hurt. Again, accounts from the scene made it seem likely that the injury is pretty serious.
