Stat Sheet: Numbers that made a difference

Here are some numbers that made a difference in Sunday's Eagles-Falcons game:

40

Rushing yards for Eagles backup running back Eldra Buckley. Even if newcomer Jerome Harrison turns out to be a solid alternative to starter LeSean McCoy, it was nice to see Buckley chip in some yards against a pretty good Falcons defense. Buckley got 12 carries and averaged 3.3 yards, including a 13-yard rumble up the middle early in the fourth quarter.

Penalty yards for the Eagles. Overshadowed by the victory was the fact that the Birds committed nine penalties, far more than the Falcons' two flags for 30 yards. Even quarterback Kevin Kolb was hit with a 15-yarder for a horse-collar tackle. When will this madness end?

Longest gain of the day for Falcons running back Michael Turner, and that came on his third carry. After that, it was all downhill for Turner. He had averaged 84 yards a game going in, but the Birds held him to 45 on 15 carries. Defensive end Trent Cole and tackle Antonio Dixon did of good job of clogging up Turner's inside rushing lanes.

5

Passes thrown to Eagles receiver Jason Avant - and passes completed to Avant. With DeSean Jackson questionable for next week with a concussion, it will be critical for the Birds to find other playmakers to throw to. Avant could be part of the answer. His longest catch Sunday was a 21-yarder down the right sideline on second and 13 at the Eagles' 42.

21

Points scored by the Eagles in the first half. It was only the second time in five games that the Birds scored 21 points before halftime, and it went far in forcing the Falcons to throw more and allowing the Eagles to chew up the clock on the ground. If the Birds can score 21 points more often than not in the first two quarters, it won't matter much who is playing quarterback.

1

Sack for the Falcons. For just the second time this season, the Eagles dominated the line of scrimmage, and lost just 6 yards on the sack. And it wasn't King Dunlap's man, John Abraham, who got it. It was defensive tackle Peria Jerry.
