Scott to donate money to aid LeGrand

Outspoken New York Jets linebacker Bart Scott will donate the proceeds from his "Can't Wait!" clothing line to a foundation to benefit paralyzed Rutgers football player Eric LeGrand, NFL.com reported Wednesday.

"I've never met him but I heard he's a great kid," Scott told NFL.com. "He has a lot of concerns and needs right now, but I know someday he will walk, and that's something I can't wait for."

Scott's "Can't wait!" exclamation came in an interview after the Jets upset the New England Patriots 28-21 in the AFC Divisional Round last season.

ESPN reporter Sal Paolantonio was ending the interview by saying, "See you in Pittsburgh (for the AFC Championship)" when Scott jumped in and shouted, "Can't wait!"

The clip became an internet hit and a symbol of the Jets' confidence under coach Rex Ryan.

Scott uttered those words three months after the 20-year-old Rutgers defensive lineman was left paralyzed below the neck while covering a kickoff in a game against Army.

LeGrand, now confined to a wheelchair, has resumed classes at Rutgers while continuing his rehabilitation. In the latest update on his recovery, he tweeted last week that he had begun feeling "twitches" throughout his body.

Scott said he anticipates 1,200 "Can't wait!" shirts will go up for sale within the next few weeks, with the proceeds from the first batch going to the Eric LeGrand Believe Fund.

"I want to do something for him, to help him," Scott said. "I hope we'll sell out the shirts quickly so we can get the money to him because things are expensive with his care, and I know there are money needs. For instance, he needs to refit the doors at his house for his wheelchair."

The Eric LeGrand Believe Fund was set up by Rutgers University to help LeGrand and his family with his long-term care.

"I want to be able to see him lead his team on the field someday," Scott said. "That's something I'm looking forward to and I just hope to help him get there."
