Report: Eagles cut veteran wide receiver Miles Austin

Published Dec. 7, 2015 5:08 p.m. ET

After sitting out Week 13 as a healthy inactive, wide receiver Miles Austin was released by the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday, as originally reported by CSN Philadelphia

Austin had been deactivated in favor of recently promoted practice squad player Jonathan Krause. It was the first time he was inactive all season long after playing the second-most snaps of any Eagles wide receiver for the majority of the 2015 season.

Despite the workload, Austin was unable to make an impact in the passing game. He finished having played over 47 percent of the Eagles' offensive snaps, but only reeling in 13 receptions for 224 yards and a touchdown.

"I think, like anybody, he was disappointed, but he understood," Kelly said Monday of Austin's Week 13 deactivation. "Miles is a real team player and knows what we’re trying to get accomplished here."

Austin will have to prove that he can be a team player and contributor elsewhere. The 31-year-old veteran wideout signed for $2.3 million back in March, and he had just one reception for 12 yards in his last four games.
