Report: Doug Martin hopes to remain in Tampa Bay

Published Dec. 1, 2015 1:38 a.m. ET

While we know that Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Lovie Smith wants to keep Doug Martin in town, many were likely interested to hear what the running back had to say about the situation.

After the Buccaneers chose to decline Martin's option for next season, it means that he'll be a free agent after the year. Fortunately, as Roy Cummings of The Tampa Tribune reports, Martin is talking like a man who would like to remain in town.

“I like it here,’’ Martin told The Tampa Tribune. “It’s a good city. As for the money, that will take care of itself. I know if I do my job everything else will fall into place.”

While Martin mentioned the money aspect, that's definitely going to be something to watch. If Martin's hot run in 2015 continues on through the home stretch, he could demand a pretty big payday, but that situation is obviously the biggest question mark at this point.
