Phony Favre signs autographs

Published Aug. 20, 2011 1:00 a.m. ET

A Brett Favre lookalike has been seen signing autographs at Green Bay practice posing as the former Packers quarterback, complete with a No. 4 jersey, the Green Bay Press-Gazette reported Saturday.

Favre's travel coordinator David Thomason said the man also posed for pictures with fans at practice Thursday and was spotted at two sports bars in the area that night.

"This has taken on a life of its own, like Elvis," Thomason told the newspaper. "But Brett has not been in Green Bay."

Local bar owner Jerry Watson said the man came to his venue in a baseball hat Thursday night, signed autographs for fans for nearly 15 minutes and then left.

"The guy is a phony," Watson said. "But he keeps his head down so you can't get that good of a look at him."

Future Hall of Famer Favre, 41, retired in January after 20 seasons in the NFL, including 16 in Green Bay.
