Jets select NC State cornerback Juston Burris in 4th round
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) The New York Jets have drafted North Carolina State cornerback Juston Burris with their fourth-round selection, adding depth to their secondary.
Burris was a three-year starter with the Wolfpack and considered a strong, physical player at his position with good hands. His selection Saturday was the first of three picks the Jets were scheduled to make on the draft's final day.
Burris will likely compete for a backup spot behind projected starters Darrelle Revis and Buster Skrine, and also play on special teams. Burris also played safety early in his college career, but is expected to play cornerback.
''He's a good prospect and fits into what we do,'' general manager Mike Maccagnan said.
The Jets have two more selections in the seventh round.
After going with Ohio State linebacker Darron Lee as the team's first-round selection with the 20th overall pick Thursday night, the Jets surprised some by drafting Penn State quarterback Christian Hackenberg in the second round Friday night.
It appeared New York might try to add a pass rusher at that spot, which they did in the third round with Georgia's Jordan Jenkins. But with Ryan Fitzpatrick still a free agent and in a contract stalemate, the Jets took Hackenberg, who set the school marks for career passing yards, completions and touchdowns.
New York could look to add depth on the offensive line or perhaps at tight end later Saturday.
