Follett, hospitalized after hit, out for season

The Detroit Lions have placed linebacker Zack Follett on season-ending injured reserve on Wednesday with a neck injury.

Follett's injury took place while he was covering a fourth-quarter kickoff during a 28-20 loss to the New York Giants at the Meadowlands on Oct. 17.

He was on the field for about five minutes while attended by medical personnel from both teams after a helmet-to-helmet hit. He was placed on a stretcher and carted off the field and sent to a New Jersey hospital.

The 6-foot-1 Follett played five games this season and made 21 tackles.
