Dallas Cowboys' Christine Michael analysis
By Jeff Magnia.
The Dallas Cowboys recently traded for Seattle Seahawks backup running back Christine Michael. Michael is a second round pick of the Seahawks out of Texas A&M.
At A&M, he posted over 2,790 yards rushing from 2009-2012. He scored thirty-five touchdowns at his time as an Aggie.
When Seattle drafted him, they already had Marshawn Lynch so a good backup was needed. Michael brings a physical style of running to wherever he goes, his highlight reels show him plowing through the line and pushing players with a stiff arm on a regular basis.
From an injury standpoint, he has had very little due to the limited time playing in the league. Collegiately, he had some problems with injuries. He was dubbed a risky pick due to his injury history. The biggest concern was an injury from 2010, he suffered a right Tibia fracture.
Another problem he had in college, his attitude. He would do well and then slack off. He would be found sleeping through meetings, missing some position meetings, and just causing problems for the coaching staff.
So far in the NFL, he hasn’t had that problem. Losing money is a great motivator for a player to make sure he takes care of his business.
What could Dallas do with a player of his caliber? I say let him sit on the practice squad for the first three weeks of the season to learn the system. Once he learns the system, implement him as the number four back behind Lance Dunbar. Get him some playing time to see how well he does and by week eight or nine, get him some more carries provided he is meeting the team expectations.
I would use him as a short-yardage back at first, gradually bringing him into the fold. He should make for a good running back provided he can keep himself healthy and his attitude in check.
