Cecil Shorts III ready to get to work
New Texans wide receiver Cecil Shorts III is adjusting to life in Houston after spending the first four seasons of his career with the Jacksonville Jaguars, and as Shorts told ESPN's Tania Ganguli, he knows he needs to get familiar quickly with quarterbacks Brian Hoyer and Ryan Mallett.
"Reps,"Shorts III said, according to ESPN. "Getting repetition in practice, getting repetition after practice and getting repetition. ... Just continuing to get repetition with the quarterbacks and getting on the same page as them. So when game time comes, he knows where I’m going to be at and I know where he wants me to be at, so we’re on the same page."
Shorts also said he plans to focus on studying the intricacies of head coach Bill O'Brien's offensive scheme in the hopes of understanding everything the team is trying to accomplish on offense - not just his role.
"If you only understand your position and what you can do at a certain position, you limit yourself," Shorts told Ganguli. "If you understand the whole concept and the whole play, you can play any position you want or you’re able to play any position on the field."
