As training camp gets underway and teams start getting their rotations down there is usually some surprises. We got one of those surprises today out of the Grizzlies camp regarding Zach Randolph.

Today the Grizzlies fans got one of the biggest surprises of training camp this year — Zach Randolph, the Grizzlies’ leading scorer in 2015-2016, is headed to the bench!

Not what many of us were expecting, am I right? It looks as though Randolph has taken it in stride and is willing to do whatever his part is to help his team.

As for who will take his place with the starters, well that would be none other than JaMychal Green. Quite a bold move by rookie coach Dave Fizdale.

While Fizdale will probably receive a fair share of criticism for making this kind of move, whether he deserves it or not, the move makes sense. Randolph coming off the bench is big for him and the young guys. Ennis and Daniels get open 3s because teams will double him down low. Baldwin has a go-to scorer on the court. Zach Randolph gets to bully second-string big men, who often aren’t ready for NBA physicality.

As training camp progresses we are sure to have more shocking news, but it wont get better than this. Score one to Grind City media for breaking the news.
