Will the Mavericks go after DeAndre Jordan?
With Dallas' season ending last night at the hands of the Houston Rockets, it's time for Mark Cuban and his front office to look towards the critical summer that lies ahead.
With so many key free agents potentially heading out the door (Rajon Rondo, Monta Ellis and Tyson Chandler, to name a few), the Mavericks can either start over or continue to fight for a championship with Dirk Nowitzki at the center of it all.
Chances are they'll opt for the latter, which means they'll be extremely aggressive players in free agency. And according to ESPNDallas.com's Tim MacMahon, Dallas may already have its eyes on one big name.
"Another potential prize summer target for the Mavs: Clippers center DeAndre Jordan, who multiple sources say has made it clear through back channels that he will be extremely interested in coming to Dallas. Signing the 26-year-old Jordan, a dominant physical force who led the league in rebounding and field-goal percentage this season, would mean letting the 32-year-old Chandler leave again after another one-season stint with the Mavs."
Jordan may not be a better player than Chandler, but he's younger and far more durable. He'll also cost a max contract, which may or may not be viewed as an overpay, depending on how much better Jordan gets over the next four or five years (especially at the free-throw line).
Either way, it's an exciting possibility for a team that needs to be better on defense.
