Watch DeMarre Caroll literally throw his body at Paul Pierce's potential game-tying shot

Things don't always go according to plan in the heat of an NBA playoff game. Sometimes, you have to come up with an adjustment. And on the final meaningful possession of the Atlanta Hawks' 106-101 win over the Washington Wizards, DeMarre Carroll did what he had to do to try to stop Paul Pierce from sinking another dagger into the Hawks.
And what Carroll had to do was fight through a massive, kind of hands-y screen from Washington's Nene in order to reach Pierce. And when Nene proved too mountainous for Carroll to get around for a true contest on Pierce's shot, the Junkyard Dog did the next best thing and, well, watch for yourself:
Yep. Carroll threw himself at the space in front of Pierce, careful not to foul, to provide any possible distraction. Did it work? It's tough to separate process and results in a single instance like this, but the short answer is the 2-2 series tie the Hawks snagged in Game 4.
