Washington Wizards rookie Kelly Oubre signs with Adidas

Published Aug. 10, 2015 11:00 a.m. ET

Washington Wizards rookie Kelly Oubre wore strange shoes on draft night. So strange, in fact, that Adidas believes the 19-year-old has what it takes to become a marketable leading man.

They reportedly signed the 15th overall pick to a sneaker deal, terms undisclosed:

Oubre isn't the only Wizard on Adidas' payroll; John Wall is arguably the face of their basketball division (alongside Derrick Rose and Damian Lillard). The company also reportedly offered James Harden $200 million on a 13-year deal, and has rising phoenix Andrew Wiggins waiting in the stables.

Nike is still the king of basketball sneakers, but Adidas' legitimate run at their throne is one to watch. The Wizards are probably thrilled that their first-round pick was tapped for the battle.
