Warriors should try to sign Kevin Garnett
The Golden State Warriors should make a play for the sage wisdom of Kevin Garnett.
With training camp around the corner in the NBA, news is starting to roll in about happenings around the league. One of the bigger bombshells to drop on Wednesday night, was that Minnesota and Kevin Garnett were working on a buyout. Marc Stein reported the news and it came as a bit of shock.
While it’s not completely surprising, it comes at a strange time. With the Timberwolves heading in a new direction with their young talent, it’s probably a signal that the end has arrived for one of the greatest of all time. It comes after the retirements of Kobe Bryant and Tim Duncan.
However, while the likely option for Garnett is retirement, that shouldn’t be the only option. If he chooses not to retire, he deserves one more chance at winning a ring. The best option for him would be the Golden State Warriors.
While it would take Garnett wanting to still play and the Warriors being willing to offer him a contract, it seems like a solid fit. His on-court presence wouldn’t be much, but the intensity and wisdom he could bring to the locker room would be fantastic. There isn’t a better teammate to get his guys fired up than Garnett.
The Warriors have never been afraid to show fight on the court, but at times their demeanor is a little too calm and collected. Garnett would provide the instant fire and having him around would be nothing but a positive.
He likely hangs it up, but the Warriors should at least give it a try.
