Warriors are reportedly asking for $20 million to put ads on their jerseys
The NBA recently approved a pilot program to allow teams to sell sponsorship patches on the front of their jerseys beginning in the 2017-18 season, and the Golden State Warriors -- the league's best regular-season team for the past two years -- are reportedly looking to cash in massively on their recent success.
According to a report from ESPN, the Warriors will be seeking $15 million-$20 million per year from a sponsor to place their logo inside of a 2½-inch by 2½-inch patch on the upper left corner of the front of the jersey.
The Philadelphia 76ers -- by far the league's worst team last season -- are the only franchise that has sold one of these sponsorships thus far, and their deal with StubHub came in at $5 million per year.
The Warriors, of course, came within one victory of winning their second consecutive title before ultimately losing in Game 7 of the NBA Finals to the Cleveland Cavaliers in June. They expect to be even more potent next season with the free-agent addition of Kevin Durant, which is why the team can confidently set the price for this unique sponsorship opportunity so high.
