Vasquez says Rockets and Timberwolves may trade for him

Toronto Raptors backup point guard Greivis Vasquez has proven himself capable of running a second unit, creating his own shot and knocking down threes. The 28-year-old doesn't shy away from big moments, either, which makes him an attractive commodity on the trade market.

Vasquez is owed $6.6 million next season, a figure that apparently isn't scaring off the Houston Rockets or Minnesota Timberwolves from showing interest.

The Rockets badly need to add a secondary ball-handler who also spaces the floor. James Harden craves assistance, but it's unclear whether Vasquez is the right man for the job. Even if GM Daryl Morey trades for him, Houston may still need a bit more firepower to compete in the Western Conference next season.

The Timberwolves make less obvious sense, but if they want to make a serious run at the playoffs next year then Vasquez can help. They already have Ricky Rubio and Zach LaVine at point guard, but if the latter isn't ready to run an offense then adding a veteran presence would be useful.

The Raptors have their own problems, and could be on the verge of a fire sale. It makes perfect sense for them to try and move Vasquez today, as opposed to losing him for nothing one year from now.
