Utah Jazz Work Out Free Agents Sims, Taylor

The Utah Jazz have been working out free agents this week, including former Brooklyn Nets center Henry Sims.

Utah Jazz GM Dennis Lindsey is a “no stone left unturned” kind of guy. Every year, he and the rest of the team’s decision makers are constantly evaluating talent; holding workouts for a seemingly inordinate amount of free agents.

Even now, with the Jazz 15-man roster for the 2016-17 NBA season all but set, Lindsey and his brain trust are hard at work, getting to know a slew of vagabond ballers on a personal level. Just this week, a couple of notable players were at the Zions Bank Basketball Center, strutting their stuff for the Jazz GM.

Basketball Insiders’ Alex Kennedy reports that Henry Sims and Jermaine Taylor worked out for the Jazz on Friday–

Sims played in 14 games for the Brooklyn Nets last season, averaging 6.5 points and 5.1 rebounds in just under 19 minutes per game. The 6-foot-11, 250-pound center’s most productive stint in the league was with the Philadelphia 76ers, where he averaged nine points and 5.5 rebounds over the course of 99 games.

The 26-year-old played his college ball at Georgetown.

Taylor, meanwhile, was the No. 32 overall pick of the 2009 NBA Draft after a strong college run with Central Florida. He went on to play 65 games in the Association with the Houston Rockets and the Sacramento Kings, averaging 5.4 points and 1.7 rebounds per contest.

The 6-foot-5 shooting guard may be familiar to Jazz fans — he played 17 games for the team’s D-League affiliate, the Idaho Stampede, during the 2014-15 season.

Taylor, 29, has taken the last year off in an effort to focus on his body after a 2014 ACL tear robbed him of some of his athleticism and explosiveness.
