Utah Jazz: Quincy Ford Injured During Practice

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Utah Jazz wing Quincy Ford suffered a blow to the head during the team’s morning practice session on Wednesday.

Training camp is underway and the Utah Jazz have begun preparation for the 2016-17 NBA season. It’s an exciting time for fans, with live game action just around the corner after a long offseason. However, with players back on the court once again, the realities of the game’s physical toll have also returned.

The Jazz suffered their first injury of the new campaign on Wednesday during the AM session of practice. Quincy Ford, a 6-foot-8, 225-pound wing out of Northeastern, reportedly caught a blow to the head. He was then held out of the evening practice session.

Beyond that, there’s been no word on the exact nature of Ford’s injury. According to a release from Jazz PR, the 23-year-old is undergoing evaluation by the team’s training and medical staff. His status going forward is day-to-day.

Ford signed a partially guaranteed contract with the Jazz for training camp earlier this month. With the roster more or less locked in for opening night and the team stocked on the wings, Ford faces an uphill battle for a spot on the squad.

However, his size, rebounding prowess, ability to play and defend multiple positions, and potential as a shooter make him an intriguing player for the Jazz.

He’s likely a strong candidate to remain under the Jazz umbrella as a member of the team’s D-League affiliate, the Salt Lake City Stars, after the conclusion of training camp.

Ford previously played for the team during summer league in July. In eight games (five of which were starts), he averaged just over five points and five rebounds per game.

Further updates on Ford’s status will be provided as they become available.

Following Wednesday’s PM session, the Jazz will be back on the court Thursday morning for Day 3 of training camp.
