USA Basketball may be done with Derrick Rose
When Derrick Rose made the decision not to attend USA Basketball's minicamp in Las Vegas this week, he put his future with the program in jeopardy.
Team USA chairman Jerry Colangelo had said beforehand that attendance was mandatory for anyone who wanted to be considered for the 2016 Olympic roster, and seemed to be ready to move on from Rose once camp got underway on Tuesday.
"We were advised he was coming," Colangelo said, via Nick Friedell of ESPN.com. "Maybe a week and a half ago or so, and then the speculation that he might not [surfaced] ... obviously he made a decision and I respect that. I respect that.
"Anyone who's not here, who had been invited, which was not mandated, but it was a request and mandatory to be here to be considered going forward -- those who made a choice not to, I respect, but then we have to move on," Colangelo said.
That would seem to indicate that Rose is no longer a part of Team USA's future, and if that is indeed the case, it would have been Rose's decision.
But he has built up an extremely large amount of goodwill with USA Basketball thanks to his past participation, so it wouldn't be all that surprising to see circumstances change at some point before next summer.
