Timberwolves have Flip Saunders tribute scheduled for home opener

Published Nov. 2, 2015 1:21 p.m. ET

The Timberwolves opened their season with two road games, but Monday night will bring them back to Minnesota for a game against the Trail Blazers. More important than the home-court advantage will be what the team has planned: A tribute to the late Flip Saunders.

Here's more from CBS Minnesota:

Prior to tip-off, in honor of Saunders, the team will play a video tribute featuring Saunders’ friends, family, former colleagues, former teammates and players.

The team will debut the FLIP patch that they will wear on their jerseys all season long.

The NBA Coaches Association also announced that all the league’s coaches will wear a “Flip” lapel pin during all games this season to honor Saunders’ dedication to the game.

Fans are encouraged to arrive at the game early to see the tribute, as well as receive a magnet with the 2015-16 season schedule on it.

As noted in the release, the Wolves will debut a patch on their jersey to honor the late Saunders:

Saunders unexpectedly passed away a little more than a week ago after a battle with cancer kept him away from the team over the summer.
