Timberwolves' Corey Brewer gets another start at shooting guard

Published Oct. 13, 2010 10:12 a.m. ET

Minnesota Timberwolves guard Corey Brewer, facing an intense battle for playing time this season at the shooting guard spot, will be in the starting lineup for tonight's NBA preseason game against the Denver Nuggets at Target Center.

Brewer, in his fourth season, started all 82 games last season but did not start the Timberwolves' preseason opener last week in London against the Los Angeles Lakers. Brewer was in the starting lineup for last week's preseason game in Paris against the New York Knicks.

Brewer shot a combined 1 for 13 in the Timberwolves' wins over the Lakers and Knicks. He averaged 19 minutes in the two wins, but was overshadowed by rookie Wesley Johnson and newcomer Martell Webster, who averaged 20.5 points off the bench in the two wins. Johnson was a combined 8 for 11 shooting and averaged 10.5 points.

A key offseason objective for Timberwolves management was to upgrade the team's perimeter scoring, primarily at shooting guard.

Also starting tonight for the Timberwolves are forwards Kevin Love and Michael Beasley, center Darko Milicic and point guard Luke Ridnour.

The Timberwolves are scheduled to leave immediately after tonight's game to play at Indiana on Wednesday night. The Timberwolves' only other preseason game at Target Center is Oct. 19 against Indiana.
